About the role
Do you want to make a difference? You have an exciting opportunity to be part of our Environmental Health Team within Regulatory Services. You’ll be part of a team delivering a quality service to residents, on issues that are often complex and can have a negative impact on quality of life.
This role sits within the commercial regulation side of Environmental Health. You will be involved in supporting wider activities such as skin piercing and tattoo regulation, health and safety enforcement, commercial nuisance investigations, and ensuring compliance with relevant environmental crime regulations. You’ll be responding to service requests and enquiries, carrying out inspections, enforcing legislation where appropriate and providing relevant specialist expertise. Environmental Protection Officers are also expected to deputise and support the management functions of the team leader.
This is a Maternity Cover role up to 12 months in duration.
About you
We are looking for a highly motivated professional Environmental Protection Officer with experience of working as a part of a multi disciplinary team to solve problems and address community concerns.
You’ll have experience of using enforcement powers in an appropriate and relevant discipline and experience of leading enforcement investigations and implementing a range of enforcement interventions.
Alongside this you’ll need an ability to deal effectively with challenging members of the public and other customers and be able to assimilate complex and conflicting information in order to make sound judgements and recommendations.
Familiarity with Civica Cx would be advantageous.

You will be working as part of a team of Customer Service Advisors, responding to requests for information about a range of enquiries and services about refuse and recycling, council tax, housing tenancies and repairs, environmental issues, the electoral roll, licensing, parking, community safety to name a few.
You will also be helping customers to access and pay for services face to face, via the telephone and email customer channels. Agile working will be considered when fully trained.
This role is part time – 20 hours a week working Monday to Friday 9am – 1pm.
If you have experience of working in a busy customer service environment and are computer literate, then we would like to hear from you.
Experience of using customer service centre technology, such as multi-function telephony systems and Customer Contact Management systems would be advantageous, although not essential as full training will be provided.
You will need to be good at communicating with customers, primarily over the telephone but also through other channels such as email and face to face and be able to deal with their enquiries efficiently.

The Street Scene department is responsible for a wide range of services including the installation of bins, benches, and other types of street furniture. We also assist in maintaining public car parks and support a variety of events, such as D-Day commemorations, Rugby in Bloom, and the annual Christmas lights display. We serve as a key support service for other council departments, handling civil works, emergency repairs, and more specialised projects including flood management, drainage, park maintenance, and general repairs. In this role you’ll be carrying out the day to day operational & monitoring functions of the Street Scene Team and support the Street Scene Team Leader in highway works, public realm maintenance and co-ordination of structural inspections and maintenance.
You’ll provide a frontline point of contact with the public and other agencies for all services which involve street scene, taking personal ownership of a range of service requests and identifying appropriate colleagues or other agencies that can address the customer’s needs.
You will assist in the effective and timely resolution of cross cutting public realm queries received via several sources. This will involve creative thinking to find solutions to unusual, complex and challenging issues.
You will receive direction and general supervision from the team leader but will be expected to work autonomously and under their own initiative for long periods of time.
You’ll be responsible for co-ordinating the Street Scene operatives in their day-to-day tasks, ensuring the department is organised and KPI’s are met for job turnarounds.
Ideally you’ll have knowledge of H&S legislation, CDM Regulations and the New Roads and Streetworks Act alongside knowledge of procurement and financial controls.
You’ll also need experience of performance management and monitoring with strong problem solving as well as IT and communication skills.
A full driving licence is essential for this role.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a team working on the Healthy Lifestyle Programme commissioned by Compass and Warwickshire County Council. This programme aims to support families to lead a healthier lifestyle in various ways including the provision of evidence-based structured 7-week family-based workshops, parent/carer workshops and 1-1’s promoting the benefits of exercise and nutrition. The age ranges include primary and secondary school aged children between 4 & 19 years.
The Family Lifestyle Advisor will be employed by Rugby Borough Council but will be working across Stratford and Warwick with some countrywide travel and will work in schools and leisure centres to deliver interactive sessions and promote active recreation and healthy lifestyles.
This is a part time, 30 hours a week role that is Fixed Term until October 2025 with possible extension to September 2030.
